-------------My first laptop ------FEB. 27 2021------- Around 2015ish I wanted to buy a laptop. I started out looking at used ones. I found a used dell latitude on eBay.. It had an old Pentium mobile and windows xp. I liked it but I couldn't talk myself into buying it. Plus others weren't too happy on that idea. So I kept looking. I was told to buy new and to avoid buying a used laptop. I didn't have a ton of money to spend and wanted something decent not a cheap new piece of junk. None of the new laptops caught my eye, so I kept looking. Soon after I ended up finding a local computer store selling used computers. Looking through their oddly designed website one laptop caught my attention it was a used ThinkPad T61 for $140. Nothing special 2 GB ram Pentium dual core but it sounded good to me. The next week I was able to get a ride to that computer store. Sitting in the car, the place was small, the windows tinted and lit up with green lights, often used by indian quickie marts. Inside are metal wire utility shelves filled with desktops and laptops. I find the laptop of interest, it's not a T61 it's a R61i. Oops it was mislabeled on the website. Same thing, only the R61i is a stripped down model with no fancy features; not even a touch pad! The laptop looks heavily used. Keyboard shiny and worn from use, even parts of the textured plastic casing were smooth from heavy use. The only other laptop in my price range was a too small for me netbook. I left the computer store and sat on it overnight. Others strongly advised me not to buy the laptop but I decided otherwise. A few days later, I was at the computer store ready to buy the laptop. Not only was the laptop still there; it was also on sale. I gave them my money and took the laptop home! The laptop worked okish and did what I needed. A few weeks later I found out something was wasn't right. Some programs didn't work right and I had trouble installing a few programs, something was wrong. The laptop went back to the computer store. A week later it was fixed. Turns out windows wasn't installed correctly and it needed to be reinstalled again. Computer store fixed it for free and I took my laptop back home. A few months later the battery wore out. Let's fast forward to 2021 and I'm typing this out using this same laptop, my Thinkpad R61i. Turns out that worn out laptop is still working just fine! In fact this laptop has become my favorite laptop I own. I even replaced the very worn out keyboard with a nicer one. I own a nicer laptop now but I still use this old r61 from time to time. 2gb ram works fine for me. Nobody else can use my laptop due to it not having a touch pad. Its always funny when others try to use my laptop. Nobody can figure out how to move the mouse and they always get mad when I show them the track point. I then get my laptop back as nobody can use the track point. lol! I will not be happy when this laptop breaks down. Stay tuned for the story of the next laptop I bought and how I ended up at the same computer store.
